Largest Solar Power Transformer Now in Commission 

In July 2022, NASS was commissioned by HICO America to install one of North America’s largest solar transformers. As a leading partner of sustainable energy, HICO America specializes in developing energy solutions and heavy electrical equipment with a global-scale impact. Having worked with NASS on previous largescale projects, HICO and their solar farm customer were confident in the company’s ability to approach the install with the proper care and safety precautions necessary for a project this size.

On July 18, 2022, the equipment arrived at its’ Southwestern United States destination and the six-week installation began of this 290MVA and 525KV capacity transformer. Weighing in at just under 600,000 lbs., the 36’ x 32.5’ transformer stands to generate enough power to supply up to 200,000 households during non-peak hours.

This solar transformer is now part of one of the largest solar farms in the Southwestern United States. Contributing to one of the smallest carbon footprints and energy payback times, this sustainable energy equipment will now aid in eliminating more than 220,000t of annual carbon dioxide emissions.
